one day documentary and premiere

In April 2003, stand decided it had had enough of tobacco glamorization. Ohio youth were tired of seeing tobacco use in movies and music videos. So, one day, they decided to stand up and say something about it. They launched a statewide petition drive to get the entertainment industry to stop glamorizing tobacco, sayin': "we love what you do; we just want you to do it better - WITHOUT tobacco!" Then, on June 19, 2003, 52 Ohio teens (symbolic of the 52 Ohioans who die each day from tobacco-related illnesses) headed to MTV's headquarters in New York City and stormed TRL with the petitions in hand. Not only did the teens get the stand logo on national TV, but they also personally asked the network to take responsibility for its part in the glamorization of tobacco.

What's the fun of creating a movement without telling other people about it? So, stand filmed it all and turned it into a documentary, titled "one day." It chronicles the lifespan of stand's teen-led efforts to bring attention to the issue of tobacco glamorization by the entertainment industry. To create even more hype around the documentary, stand created a big premiere event to unveil the film.

Complete with red carpet, limousines and paparazzi, the "one day" documentary premiere was a star-studded gala with most of the 52 stand youth who starred in the documentary showin' up in stretch limousines and decked out in Oscar-worthy formal wear. The event also featured local community members, politicians, media personnel and most importantly, Ohio youth. After enjoying the 50-minute documentary with friends, the kids enjoyed the rockin' after-party - we're talkin' music, dancing and catered hors d'ouvres. Now, that's what we call doin' it up big! Since then, stand has been in constant contact with MTV, even getting stand's logo and anti-tobacco information on MTV's Web site!
